Annual pay continues to climb for solo practitioners and lawyers at small law firms, according to ATL’s 2024 Solo & Small Firm Compensation Survey, the results of which were released this week.
Above the Law has been tracking compensation among lawyers in small practices since 2016, focusing on firms with 50 or fewer attorneys.
Over the last three years, the proportion of respondents earning $250,000 or more has risen markedly, from 29% in 2022 to 36% in 2023 to 43% in 2024. Nearly one in five lawyers who took the survey in 2024 earns at least $500,000.
These findings are in line with broader industry trends showing rising pay for the legal profession as a whole.
