Alito is no stranger to gifted luxury — there is a well-documented fancy Alaskan fishing trip to prove it. But he’s more than a man who enjoys fishing on someone else’s dime. He can enjoy the arts on their dollar too. His financial disclosure showed that he’s been rubbing shoulders with royalty. Princess Gloria von Thurn, to be specific. ABA Journal has coverage:
The Alitos stayed in the palace when they attended the music festival in 2023; the accommodation does not have to be disclosed. The festival included a performance of “The Magic Flute” and a concert by a Michael Jackson tribune band. Princess Gloria also obtained tickets for the Alitos to attend a music festival celebrating the work of German composer Richard Wagner.
Alito valued the ticket at $900.
The 64-year-old princess is now “an anti-abortion and anti-immigration provocateur” with “ties to the European far right,” the New York Times said.
What is with these Supreme Court justices befriending obscenely rich right-wingers who have a penchant for high art with Nazi associations? Wagner was one of Hitler’s favorite composers (Alito) and Harlan Crow collects Hitler artifacts (Clarence). On their own, these are just odd tidbits, together strange coincidences, but if a disclosure reveals that Barrett was gifted “historically significant fatigues” from a billionaire that really likes the work of Aleksandr Dugin, ProPublica needs to do an in-depth investigation stat.
