How You Can Grow Out Of A Solo Law Practice

leaves-7194981_1280There are lots of solopreneurs who are perfectly happy with a lifestyle practice — and never moving beyond that by hiring up.

But a not insignificant number of solo lawyers want to grow their practices, too.

At some point, you’ll reach a maximum capacity of work that you can do on your own — and at that point, you just have to hire if you want to create additional revenue opportunities.

But when and how do you make that move? What levers do you pull to add and manage staff and grow your practice beyond its current bounds?

We brought Lindsey Egan, the managing attorney at Egan Law Center, onto the Non-Eventcast podcast, to find out.

We kicked off the show by addressing rustic dining options (7:25).

After that, Lindsey covered the legaltech challenges involved in ramping up from a solo law firm to a small practice (12:52) — including Lindsey’s adoption of Clio for case management (21:50), how she uses both the Microsoft and Google suites for productivity (25:12), and how she leverages Trello for task management (29:02).

Lindsey also discussed how she utilizes her natural talent as a networker (11:53) to bring in her ideal clients, and how she finds staff, including her recent hire of an associate (31:38).

If you’re a solo attorney looking to grow your firm, we’ve got a template for that process!
